Live an unforgettable adventure in the Atlas Mountains!
- One of the highest peaks in Morocco
- Unique ridge that leads to the summit with 360 ° views of breathtaking landscapes
- Crossing the green valley of Ait Bougmez.
- A real adventure in the heart of Morocco Berber, far from the classic tourist paths.
- Meeting the local nomads and villagers.
A fully supported twelve thousand feet hike to the highest peak in north Africa! Hike in style with We take you to the third highest peak of the Atlas Mountains : the M’Goun Mount, at 4071m of altitude. A unique adventure with its long ridge overlooking the High Atlas. Get ready to discover breathtaking landscapes and to meet local people, in a part of the Atlas Mountains still unknown by the tourists.
The first day, we drive you to the green valley of Ait Bougmez where you can admire the ridges that stand before you like pyramids. After a few hours walking you will arrive at the sheepfolds of Azib N’Ikkis, where you will spend your first night under the tent.
The second day is dedicated to the crossing of two mountain passes that will offer you a breathtaking view of the ridges of Tarkeddite and the majestic M’Goun mountain range. You will spend the night in a tent on the plateau of Tarkeddite, where you may have the chance to meet the nomads who often come here with their flocks (goats, sheep and even camels!).
The third day is probably the hardest beacause here starts the climb of Mount M’Goun until 4071m! But the effort is worth it from the top you can see the fabulous Dades and Drâa valleys, and even the black peaks of Jbel Saghro (if the weather is clear). On the fourth day you will enjoy a last panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and the “Happy Valley” of Ait Bougmez, before going down quietly to the starting point.
This adventure is intended for experienced walkers or people in good physical condition. However, it is possible to hike without climbing the M’Goun Pass, so less athletic people can also join the group. A mule driver follows you throughout the trek while a cooker takes care of the setting up of the camps and the preparation of all the meals, which are varied and hot served.
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Bougmez – Azib n’Ikkis – 4h30 walk. Departure from Marrakech: transfer to Ait Bougmez (4h drive). Lunch on site before departure for the walk. We start our trek by discovering the valley of Ait Bougmez, then continuation to the village of Arouss (1900m) for lunch. The trek continues following the Arouss river towards Azib n’ikkis (2250m). Night under the tent.
Day 2: Azib n’Ikkis – Tarkeddite Pass – Tarkeddite Plateau – 6h walk.
After breakfast, we climb gently towards the Oumskiyq pass (2909m) for a view of the Tarkeddite peaks, then by the second pass of Aghouri (3400 m) to enjoy a magical view of the M ‘goun and its summit. Short descent to the plateau of Tarkeddite (2900m), frequented by nomads. Night under the tent.
Day 3: Tarkeddite – Ascension M’Goun (4071m) – Ouzabi sheepfold (2800m) – 9h walk.
Departure around 5am to avoid walking in the heat. A long step of 9 hours of walk: we start the day with an easy climb without technical difficulties surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The final ascension to the summit at 4071 meters is optional (for those who do not want to climb to the top, it is possible to take a variant by Col-n-Ougmar which rises to 2970m). From the ridge, we will have a panoramic view to the summit with a splendid view over the M’Goun Massif. We can even see far away the Draa and Dades valleys ((if the weather is clear)! The descent to the next camp will offers you beautiful landscapes. The team of mule drivers and cookers will wait for you at the bivouac, near the sheepfolds. Day 4: Ouzabi sheepfold (2800m) – Sedremt Pass – Ait Bougmez Valley – Marrakech. We will start the day with a small descent, followed by a climb to reach the mountain pass where you will have a panoramic view of all the surrounding mountains and all the “Happy Valley” of Ait Bougmez, which we will join while downhill! Back to Marrakech and end of the program.
